The Friday Quiz: You Only Quiz Twice
Without further ado:
Invented by Juan de la Cierva in 1923, this device has been used by ranchers and artillery units. One was featured in the James Bond movie You Only Live Twice, and another in Mad Max: The Road Warrior. Batman briefly had one in the late thirties and early forties.
What is the device?
First correct answer posted to comments gets a copy of a rare early edition of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe in which Edmund says "Aslan sucks!". No Googling, or asking your Facebook "friends." One guess per comment but comment as often as you like.

Ding ding ding! Rory, welcome back to quizland. Juan de la Cierva is indeed the inventor of the autogyro (or "autogiro"); the autogyro differs from a helicopter in that the rotor simply turns freely; the forward motion of the machine causes the rotor to turn, which in turn generates lift in the same way a glider's wings do.
The fact that it needs to go forward in order to get lift means that the autogyro is bad at hovering. It is, however delicious when served with tzatziki sauce, and fresh tomato.
