Today’s Category: The Glorious and Noble Pageant of American History, as Excitingly Rendered in Eighth-Grade Textbooks
Sixty-nine years before the Robert E. Lee fought the Battle of Gettysburg, Lee’s father was involved in a military action in the same state, commanding a force of 13,000 men to put down a “rebellion.” With what precious commodity was the dispute between federal troops and local residents concerned?

goneill and i want to get together with you and a select few from the mefi party sometime. are you game? tonight we're going to this dj show at the bronx museum that's supposed to be pretty live, though it starts early, like 7:00. stop by and we can hang out or else we'll be in touch.
i know, i know, most of this comment belongs in email; i'm just an exhibitionist, i guess. anybody else reading wombat file is welcome to attend the party at the bxma too, of course. please don't call me out in metawombattalk for 'inappropriate use of the moveable type comment system'.
Posted by: mlang on March 15, 2002 10:40 AMGosh darn it. The first one I knew and I get here late. I'll add that Robert E. Lee's ancestor was Light Horse Harry Lee.
Posted by: boxjam on March 15, 2002 10:44 AMdon't feel bad, mr. boxer rebellion; i've been lurking for a while, just waiting for an eight-grade-history level question that i could actually answer. i'll gladly forfeit my jingoistic prize to the man who actually knew the name of general lee's daddy.
bill: send my bumpersticker to boxjam, i beg you.
