U.S. security was compromised today when it was discovered that through a simple Internet search, hostile forces may be able to determine the location of Cheney.
Posted by BT at April 01, 2003 11:10 PMapparently in Australia you are not allowed to pull April Fools' pranks after 12 noon--otherwise the joke is on you, my friend
i know of no such restriction in the USA--but woe betide the prankster who trys some funny stuff at 3 PM here in Australia
or else my students were just pulling my leg...
Posted by: art on April 2, 2003 02:10 AM...a restriction introduced by exasperated Australian primary school teachers.
My only regret was publicly announcing a hiatus a week before April Fool's, thereby guaranteeing that hardly anyone saw my April Fool's Day joke.
I should have gone with the full-on ultra-trolling LGF spoof. That would have got the hit count up.
Posted by: Rory on April 2, 2003 04:09 AMSo it is an Australian thing then? I'm Aussie, and a when a guy whose weblog I read (http://www.tbotcotw.com/) posted that the had been fired, I called shenanigans, pointing out this same rule.
Anyone else from another country with the same rule? I'm looking at you, England. Any UK verification there Rory?
Posted by: Garthmeister J on April 2, 2003 09:25 PMHmm...how does the International Date Line affect this?
Posted by: BT on April 3, 2003 07:38 AMWho was your favorite character on A Family Affair? Mine was Mr. Freedom.
Posted by: Scott on April 3, 2003 08:16 AMLooks like it's an English thing too, Garth:

[Hmm, looks like the Scots around me were falling down on the job on Tuesday. I didn't encounter any buttocks humour all day.]
Posted by: Rory on April 3, 2003 01:08 PMAn interesting point BT - as the (potential, as it turned out non) prank was not only posted after noon, local time in Denver, it was posted on April the 2nd, my time.
Upshot: I have to be on my toes for roughly two days. Welcome to the internet.
Actually, I'm thinking this whole April Fool's problem may be the catalyst for everyone adopting Universal Time. Which means I would start work at (about) 18:00, and leave at about 04:00. Cool!
Posted by: Garthmeister J on April 3, 2003 09:41 PMThere was a Saturday Night Live skit from the 70s with Dan Akyroyd (son of a bitch, I spelled that right!) proposing the decaday. This was when the US actually thought about the metric system other than when tinkering with a non-US car. The decaday has 100 hours and allowed you to do much, much more.
