The Blacked-Out Friday Quiz

Although we do have power here in part of Brooklyn, I hope you'll forgive me when I say that I just plain forgot about the quiz this week, and had even been online for a good hour, reading news and trying to find out when my friends in less-fortunate parts of town would have power, before I realized that gosh, it's Friday, isn't it?

So, today's special Blackout Edition of the Quiz -- what star of television and film did I see, looking as anxious as the rest of confused Gotham, on Thursday afternoon after the lights went out?

First correct answer posted to comments wins a bottle of warm diet Snapple.

You can bet your ass it won't be Bob Hope.

You fools didn't notice, but the Blacked-out 'bat didn't ban Googling this time. So off I trotted to the oracle and can now tell you it was Robin Williams or possibly Danny Devito.

Hit me with that Snapple, Smoochy!

Uma Thurman.

Does it strike anyone else as strange that Rick Santorum hasn't come out condemning Gothamites yet?

Posted by: Scott on August 15, 2003 04:58 PM

I believe Santorum has, however, condemned the "Goth" lifestyle, as it can lead to man-on-mascara relationships.

No correct answers yet -- I'll just point out that this is a celebrity who filmographically connects to both Devo and Bruce Willis.

Cybill Shepard seems too obvious. But hey, I'm all for the obvious. I'll go for Cybill.

Posted by: KF on August 15, 2003 08:11 PM

Sorry, KF, I didn't see any Moonlighting stars. (I'd be curious to hear about the Shepard/Devo intersection, though).

And, Minoru -- Jeremy Piven gets a special prize for so-out-of-left-field-it-demands-an-explanation. Was "PCU" just rerun on Comedy Central or something?

Danny Aiello?

Posted by: Gavin on August 16, 2003 09:36 AM

Not Aiello. More people my fellow blackoutee has worked with: Hugh Grant, Johnny Depp, and Helen Hunt.

I saw Arnold Schwarzenegger on Wednesday, on the lower east side---that is no bs, he was driving an Arnold-sized SUV away from a presidential fitness event---but I'll guess you saw Sarah Jessica Parker.

ding ding ding ding!

Bootsy nails it...SJP was out with her neighbors in the West Village, babe in arms, as I scurried crosstown...of course the Devo connection is the episode of Square Pegs where Mark and the boys played Muffy's bat mitvah. The tune, I think, was "That's Good."

Say, I've got one for you:

What American bestselling novel, made into a popular movie starring Frank Sinatra, contains substantial passages clearly plagiarized from Robert Graves's I, Claudius?

From Here to Eternity?
