Today's calendar-appropriate exercise asks you to take a look at the list of book titles below --
Vibrational Medicine
The Pumped-Up Pirate
What Would Jesus Eat?
Alien Log
Dead Witch Walking
Ungrateful in Death
Strawberry Shortcake & Friends Celebrate Earth Day!
If Men are Like Viruses, then How do I Catch One?
The Care and Feeding of Navy SEALS
The Good, the Bad, and the Undead
"Love Is..." Collectibles Authorized Handbook and Price Guide
Impertinent Wench
Bamboo & Lace
She-lings: Understanding a Woman's Emotional Storms
Planet Keepers Vol. 1: Checkmating Aliens
They Called Her Mrs. Doc
The Smoothieman's Power of Smoothies Diet
Menage a Magick
Sisterchicks in Sombreros
-- and answer a simple question:
Which of these titles did the Wombat fabricate, and which were transcribed, without alteration, from the book-selling website at which he toils for pay?
The first succesful ID of all made-up titles wins a nice new copy of Jerome K. Jerome's Three Men in a Boat. Really. I'll send it to you and everything. (Oh, and will I ever get the prizes done for the Quizvitational? Yes. But not today.) No Googling and obviously any reference to the websites of booksellers or libraries is out-of-bounds altogether. You may, of course, post multiple title-guesses to any one comment.
Posted by BT at April 01, 2005 10:43 AMI'm going conservative, mostly b/c "Strawberry Shortcake & Friends Celebrate Earth Day!" is one of my favorites.
The Pumped-Up Pirate
The Care and Feeding of Navy SEALS
Impertinent Wench
Bamboo & Lace (which is listed twice)
Sorry about the double on Bamboo & Lace -- that's fixed.
Posted by: BT on April 1, 2005 11:13 AMI'm limbing and guessing that these are all in fact books in print.
Posted by: Scott on April 1, 2005 12:28 PMI will come in at this point and say that Scott is not correct. And that James has made at least one mistake in each direction.
Posted by: BT on April 1, 2005 12:48 PMI'll go with
PU Pirate
Dead Witch Walking
Navy SEALS
SisterChicks in Sombreros
**crickets**
Posted by: BT on April 1, 2005 02:14 PMSomehow I didn't see your post before the crickets came in, Scott...I'm all thumbs today, I guess.
Your list, like James's, contains misses in both directions (leaves off one or more fakes, includes one or more real titles).
Posted by: BT on April 1, 2005 02:24 PMVibrational Medicine
The Pumped-Up Pirate
"Love Is..." Collectibles Authorized Handbook and Price Guide
are fake.
God I hope the "Love Is..." Collectibles &c. is fake.
Posted by: boxjam on April 1, 2005 02:59 PMWell, if we regard the chance of getting any particular title as a coinflip, then we're dealing with two to the power of nineteen, which comes in at a 1-in-524,288 chance of getting them all right.
I'll hazard a guess anyway, saying that the following middle chunk of the list is all authentic:
Ungrateful in Death
Strawberry Shortcake & Friends Celebrate Earth Day!
If Men are Like Viruses, then How do I Catch One?
The Care and Feeding of Navy SEALS
The Good, the Bad, and the Undead
"Love Is..." Collectibles Authorized Handbook and Price Guide
Impertinent Wench
Bamboo & Lace
She-lings: Understanding a Woman's Emotional Storms
