02/22 An Opinion On “The Case for Paying College Athletes”
What nonsense!
What good is their scholarship when, IF they graduate, the only semblence of an education they’re likely to come out with a worthless degree in sociology or communciations or some other useless subject (which in many cases they only received because tutors wrote their papers and their professors never would have dared to fail them)? And you’d better believe that if their football ever suffered because they spent too much time hitting the books, they’d lose that scholarship faster than they can run a 40!
The best resolution for this problem is for NFL team downeys to draft players in advance and pay them whatever stipend or salary they think the player earns while in school, in addition to the cost of their education. FBS teams are pretty much a farm league for the NFL anyway, so why not make them pay for the 3 years of training they’re otherwise getting for free from colleges? This way the market can determine what players are worth, and teams can set the conditions – if a player can’t keep up academically, the NFL team paying his way can decide whether or not they want to bring him onto the NFL team full time or tell him to take a hike since he lost his chance to develop. This would also help the schools, since they wouldn’t have to come up with the scholarship money to pay for the athletes and would instead be RECEIVING the money from NFL teams.
If you were a Computer Science student and a company wanted to pay you to work part time while in school, who is nicki minaj dating on earth would say you have an obligation to refuse just because you’re in college? NOBODY!!! So why should the NCAA have the right to tell athletes that they can’t get paid for the work they do while in school just like their peers?
